When working at such short wavelengths, great care must be taken to prevent the
occurrence of small defects in the optical components or their coatings. Many
common
optical glasses cease to transmit at ultra-violet spectrum so materials such as
UV Fused
Silica, CaFr, MgFr, must be used in UV applications. These materials require
higher
level ofprecision during fabrication. Also, the coating layers are very thin,
requiring a
high precision and control during the thin film deposition process.
